Today's Word of Encouragement from Wayne:

Learning Obedience From The Things He Suffered

"Christ did not glorify Himself so as to become a high priest, but He who said to Him, ‘You are My Son, today I have begotten You’; just as He says also in another passage, ‘You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizadek.’ Although He was a Son, He learned obedience from the things that He suffered. And having been made perfect, He became to all those who obey Him the source of eternal salvation, being designated by God as a high priest according to the order of Melchizadek"

Hebrews 5:5-6,8-10, Psalm 110:4

Bless our Lord and High Priest forever, Jesus Christ! Psalm 110:4 is quoted two times within this passage of Scripture concerning our Savior being our "priest forever according to the order of Melchizadek." Every time the author of Hebrews quoted this psalm, he would explain even more about our glorious High Priest and what He has done for us. In this section we see that "although He was a Son, He learned obedience from the things He suffered."

Oh, may we all follow this beautiful example of our High Priest concerning any and all suffering we may experience in our own lives in Christ. Let us not see suffering as "meaning-less," but rather as a "means-by-which" we may grow in God, becoming more aware and close to our High Priest, with the result that we become more obedient to God, and more available to people in serving others through what we have gone through. Indeed, as we live our lives with our eyes upon Christ our High Priest, nothing is lost or wasted in our experience.

He works all things together for good (Romans 8:28) and we most readily and quickly see this as we remain close to Christ, as priests (1st Peter 2:5-9) to our High Priest. "And having been made perfect," through His obedience and through His sufferings, Jesus is now our resurrected High Priest. Let us also always have this view, of our own perfection, in our Lord, in our hearts, to encourage and strengthen us, in our every-day lives.

Our great Savior, Lord and High Priest went through all of His sufferings for us so He may become our "source of eternal salvation." Yes, let us follow and bless our Lord and High Priest forever, Jesus Christ! Hallelujah!
