O Taste And See That The Lord Is Good
Today’s Word Of Encouragement From Wayne:
“O taste and see that the Lord is good; how blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him”
Psalm 34:8
This was, in David’s mind, the simplest, most direct, appeal to a person regarding their own entrance into ministering to the Lord in His presence.
David believed that if one would truly “taste and see” God’s goodness, then this would create a continuing desire to lead that individual further into God’s “refuge” presence. For it is actually within our “refuge” of God, Himself, that we do directly “taste and see” just how good our God is!
“Taste and see” means to experience, realize, and understand “that the Lord is good.”
When we “taste and see that the Lord is good,”in His presence, then we most certainly do realize for our own lives the truth of “how blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him.”
There is a connection between tasting the goodness of God and desiring more of His presence, and God has made it this way.
The proof of our tasting and seeing that the Lord is good, is that we step further and closer into His presence for more of this goodness we are tasting.
It’s so blessedly simple for all of us.
The apostle Peter echoed David’s words when he wrote this to the body of Christ, regarding our taking up the mantle of our priesthood unto God in ministering to our Lord, “grow in respect to salvation, if you have tasted the kindness of the Lord. And coming to Him as to a living stone which has been rejected by men, but is choice and precious in the sight of God, you also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood” (1 Peter 2:3-5).
Just as David believed that tasting God’s goodness would lead people into the realization of “how blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him,” Peter believed that tasting God’s kindness would lead people into the realization of how “precious” Christ, our living corner stone is, and that this would further lead us into the realization and understanding of our “holy priesthood” unto our Lord,
O may the entire body of Christ joyfully and humbly come into obedience and understanding of this word, concerning our purpose as God’s people of His presence in this world in which we live.
Beloved of God, let us each today “taste and see that the Lord is Good” and understand the blessing of our taking refuge in Him. Yes let us taste “the kindness of the Lord” so we may truly, according to this word from Peter, grow in respect to our salvation through becoming God’s “royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s Own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him” (1 Peter 2:9).
“O taste and see that the Lord is good” and then declare how good God is! Hallelujah!
